Nectarines' crisis, prices may change
France
Monday 23 July 2007
Producers representatives and ministry officers met yesterday in order to discuss of crisis that is currently involving the nectarine-peach sector in France.
Since about one month the SNM (Service des Nouvelles des Narchés) - organization that reports prices of the agricultural products - declared the difficult situation of this fruit.
The FNPF (Fédération Nationale des Producteurs de Fruits) asked for the implementation of the margin coefficient on prices without obtaining any answer until yesterday.
Margin coefficient was enforced last time in 2005 and since then, Agriculture ministry has avoided to apply it again.
But now it seems that both fruit and vegetable producers' syndicates and deputies of the Rhône valley, Provence and Roussillon are strong and unite enough so as to be successful in persuade both ministries of Agriculture and Economy. The decision should be taken in a short time.
