In Morocco, tomatoes play a predominant role in the country's foreign trade results, accounting for almost a third of total fruit and vegetable exports.
According to the Moroccan media, for the 2022/23 season (July-June), the country exported 716,700 tonnes of tomatoes worth an estimated MAD 10 billion (USD 976.4 million). Only 670,000 tonnes were exported during the previous season.
Morocco has thus further strengthened its position as a major exporter of fresh tomatoes. In 5 years, the volume of tomatoes exported has increased by 25%, and in 6 years the number of destination countries has risen from 24 to 44.
Morocco can export tomatoes all year round, with a peak between November and March. The main destination for Moroccan tomatoes is Europe, led by France, followed by the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
