In New Zealand, after the disastrous effects of Cyclone Gabrielle last year, the situation in the apple sector seems to be improving significantly.
The local media quoted Karen Morrish, CEO of NZ Apples and Pears, as saying that the apple harvest that has just begun is estimated to be a third larger than last year and 12% larger than in 2022.
According to Karen Morrish, exports are estimated at 21.2 million cartons, or 382,000 tonnes. The quality of the fruit is considered to be high, with excellent parameters in terms of size, colour, flavour and aroma.
In New Zealand, the apple season runs from February to October, with April, May and June being the peak months for exports.
