How severe frosts in Ukraine will affect the prices for fruit and vegetables
MD
Due to low temperatures and hard snow falls in December 2012 (-15 C) the prices for fruit and vegetables in Ukraine essentially rose.
Retail companies suffer from delivery delays and double prices for fruit and vegetable transportation.
Import products prices are impacted most of all. During last 3 days international transportation expenses greatly increased which led to 16 – 25 % fruit, vegetable price rising. This price leap affected potato, carrot, beet, cabbage and apples – 0,2 – 0,18 UAH / kg.
Because of bad weather conditions local transport companies refuse to deliver products to Western regions of Ukraine, where the snow falls don’t stop.
Due to weather forecast the temperature will start gradually rising from the beginning of January 2013.
