Fruit imports increased by 22.8 % in 2014

According to Chinese customs data , fresh fruit imports reached 3.3 million tons in 2014, 22.8 % from the previous year.
Exotic fruits are well ahead of Chinese imports : bananas totaled 1.1 million tonnes ( + 119% ) and mostly come from the Philippines although Ecuador has managed to sell 200 000 tonnes.
After bananas, dragon fruit with 603,000 tonnes ( + 12 %), mainly from Vietnam and longan and durian from Thailand . These 4 fruits account for 71 % of total Chinese imports.
Other fruits : grapes, with 211,000 tonnes ( 13% ) come from Chile, the United States and Peru ; oranges with 90,000 tonnes ( + 3%) from South Africa and Australia ; kiwi with 62,000 tonnes ( + 30%) are imported from New Zealand and Europe. Italy has provided 11,000 tons of kiwifruit ( + 175 % compared to 2013).
