A certification of origin for pineapples from Costa Rica

To consolidate their leadership position internationally, the Costa Rican producers are considering adopting a certification of origin for pineapples. 

 

 

A certificate of the origin of the fruit could be implemented in all farms in a fairly quick time. This certification would be an advantage to meet the demands of buyers increasingly keen to obtain information about the origin and quality of products. 

 

Costa Rica is the first fresh pineapple exported in the world, supplying 84% of demand in the US and almost 50% of the European market. Recently entered the exclusive supplier in Korea and Japan, markets that offer good growth opportunities. Costa Rica is the only contry self-sufficient in seed production.
