Creation of the new garlic brand "Ajo español"

Producers from across Spain met together in the National Board of garlic in Segovia.
The National Board of garlic indicates that the new quality label "ajo espanol " will support the sector. This new brand is open to all growers and will help to differentiate the Spanish garlic imports of inferior quality from Chinese imports.
Producers who wants to use must certify that they have complied with the rules and procedures. The Board has called for stricter import controls to prevent trafficking and smuggling of garlic found in 2008.
Spain is the first producer of garlic in the EU, after the supply to its domestic market, exports are the destination of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Portugal. In 2010, Spanish exports of garlic rose from 55,000 to 61,000 tons. Spain also imports 13,000 tons of garlic from France, Argentina, Chile and China.
