Russia to resume potato imports from Egypt
MD
Reversing an earlier decision, Russia has agreed to resume imports of potatoes from Egypt, said the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture.
Russia stopped its imports of Egyptian potatoes after the discovery of brown rot and bacterial disease in some shipments.
Negotiations between the two countries have led Russia to resume imports with new rules. Egyptian exports will be only from areas free of brown rot and shipments will be subject to inspection at ports by a control team.
These new measures will be approved and an agreement signed early July between the Russian health authorities and Egypt. Egyptian exports of potatoes exceed 500,000 tons per year.
