Patates de Prades files for PGI status
Spain
Friday 03 February 2006
Producers in the Tarragona province of Catalonia have applied for PGI status for potatoes known as Patates de Prades.
The PGI will be restricted to the potatoes grown in four communes in Catalonia, which are situated at 1000m above sea level and are recognised for their distinctive soil type.
Because of the long growing cycle of the potato, harvesting takes place once a year, and is done by hand.
