Sales of pears rising again

Positive trend observed in the sales of Abate pears.

After a moderate start of the campaign, a quite important turnaround has been recorded in the last 2 weeks. Demand has been consolidated, the recovery of the consumption is sensitive to both the domestic market and foreign markets.

The CSO predicts an output of about 297,000 tons this year, an increase compared to the amount produced in 2012/13. The end of the marketing year for Abate pears will occur with normal volumes but much earlier than initially planned at the beginning of the season.
