This year 1 mango out of 6 consumed in Europe will come from Africa.
European demand for mangoes continues to increase and consumption of this fruit is expected to total 300 000 tonnes this year.
While the first exporters of mangoes in Europe remain Peru (70 000 tonnes) and Brazil (45 000 tonnes), African countries are becoming major players.
For the year 2016, professionals estimate that Europe will import about 50 000 tonnes from Africa, and in particular from Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea and Côte d'Ivoire. Côte d'Ivoire alone doubled its exports in a few years to nearly 30,000 tons.
