During the first three months of this year, Peru imported 7,044,988 kilos of apples, reaching a value of US$8,753,522. These figures represent an increase compared to the same period last year, where 6,452,410 kilos were imported with a value of US$7,273,120.
According to data provided by Agrodata, the United States stood out as the main supplier of apples to Peru in the first quarter of 2024, with sales reaching US$4,699,000. It was followed by Chile with US$3,898,000, Argentina with US$129,000 and Portugal with US$27,000.
It is important to mention that in April of this year, Peru's National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) decided to temporarily suspend the importation of apples and stone fruits from Chile. This preventive measure was taken due to the risk associated with the possible introduction of the Grapholita molesta pest, which affects these crops.
Over the course of 2023, Peruvian apple imports totaled 42,372,922 kilos, valued at US$44,473,229.
