Banana exports fall
Ecuador

Ecuador has seen a marked decline in banana exports after reduced global demand and a decline in production.
Ecuador has just recorded a net decline in its banana exports.
In February 2012 banana exports fell by 23.14% compared to February 2011 and 9.86% from January 2012.
For the Banana Exporters Association, two main reasons for the decline are reduced demand
on the international market and the fall in production due to damage during winter. The Exporters Association expects it will take at least 6 months to recover production, and estimates that the sector may still exceed the volumes produced in 2011.
