VI.P Val Venosta increases its strawberries and small fruits production which show a strong demand and allow higher margins.
Producers from MEG cooperative (belonging to VI.P val Venosta) decided to invest on small fruits.
Strawberries production and other berries are going to increase. "The decision was taken because strawberries and fruits summer allow margins higher than vegetables, 15-20 % more" said Peter Gamper, MEG Director.
The MEG cooperative produces an average of 1.300 tons of fruits summer (cherries, strawberries, currants), the surface extended and strawberries production will increase by 20 %. For raspberries, an increase of 60 % is planned what will give a 100 ton production. For other small fruits (currants, cornflowers and blackberries), the increase will be of 70 % to reach 150 tons (against 80 in 2009).
The cooperative has included producers of Bas-Vinschgau. The softer climate until autumn will prolong the season which, until last year, took place from the end of June to the beginning of September. Cooperative will be on market two months more.
