Artichokes : open-field culture

The Tunisian production of artichokes is estimated at around 17 000 tons and is cultivated on 2 870 hectares. Exports, to Italy notably, have increased from 11 tons in 1998 to 72 tons in 1999. As for strawberries, the cultivated area reached 400 hectares in 1998. The current production is estimated at 8 000 with a yield of 20 tons per hectare. Exports reached 40 tons in 1998, principally towards the European market.
