The 14th International Citrus Congress to be held in Mersin

The 12th Congress was held in Valencia, the 13th will be held in Brazil in 2016 and 14th in 2020 in Mersin.

This announcement was made formally by the Turkish Minister for the economy, Zafer Çaglayan, who moved to Mersin specially to attend the launch meeting at the headquarters of the Union of Exporters of Mersin Mediterranean.

This is an important delegation of exporters, dignitaries and academics who participated at the Congress held in Valencia last month. Mersin hosted the Mediterranean Games in 2013.

This event is of special importance and highlights the growth in production and export of citrus from Turkey. According to the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Union of Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables Mr. Ali Kavak, Turkey is the 10th largest producer of citrus with an annual production of approximately 3.5 million, of which 43 percent are exported , putting Turkey in a position as the second largest exporter of citrus worldwide.
