The first steps to increase exports will be to extend shipment period and to add the early and late varieties.

India, which is the largest producer of mangoes in the world, wants to double its exports of fresh mangoes.

The government wants to develop infrastructure, logistics, establishing a focal point that would improve competitiveness and to increase period of exports.

India exports only 3 months while the production period is 8 to 9 months. This additional period will help increase exports by adding the early varieties and late varieties for export markets.

The two states of Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh contributes to nearly half of production in India. India produces about 15 million tons of mangoes and exports less than half of the production, which represented in 2009-2010 an income of 50 million U.S. dollars.
