South Africa has decided to voluntarily close the export of Valencia oranges from areas affected by CBS in order not to lose access to the EU market (Photo: farmingportal.co.za).
Because maintaining long-term access to the EU market remains a priority, South Africa has decided to voluntarily close the export of Valencia oranges from areas affected by CBS (Citrus Black Spot) .
CGA (Citrus Growers' Association of South Africa) and advice from the Fresh Produce Exporters Forum have taken the decision to voluntarily close the export of Valencia oranges from areas affected by CBS (Citrus Black Spot) from 16 September 2022.
This decision was taken in response to the 10 notifications of non-compliance regarding CBS on South African citrus detected so far this season. This decision also shows the effectiveness of the South African system in reducing pest risk. Professionals who believe that maintaining long-term access to the EU market remains a priority.
This decision is a new blow for South African producers who have just experienced one of the most difficult seasons: with increases in the price of fertilizers (+56%), fuel (+53%), sea freight ( +128%).
Tangerines, grapefruits, lemons and Navel oranges from CBS-free areas are not affected.
