Gradual return to normal for Moroccan tomato production

Local media report that with rising temperatures, tomato production is returning to normal. For example, in the Souss-Massa region, normal production was 2,000 kg/hectare/day, then winter conditions reduced production to around 300 kg/hectare/day, but currently production is increasing rapidly.

 

"Temperatures have improved and mark the end of winter. It is now possible to save the tomato season and considerably reduce the production gap compared to last year," said Mustapha Aouragh, specialized agronomist in tomato production

 

At the start of the year, the cold spell had caused an 80% drop in tomato volumes, according to the Moroccan Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables, leading to an unprecedented rise in prices on the domestic market and a shortage of tomatoes. to export markets.
