Low production, high demand and production difficulties have led to higher prices and an early end to the citrus season (Photo: sevilla.abc.es).
In Spain, the low yields of production and the high demand generated by the COVID-19 pandemic caused an early end of the season for oranges, tangerines and lemons.
According to a report from the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, citrus farms in the Andalucia region have recorded a low yield for the 2019/20 campaign and the marketing of late varieties is in the final phase.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for citrus has greatly increased. This increased demand, added to low production and difficulties (mobility of workers, problem of access to farms ...), pushed up prices. A 6% increase was registered in the first weeks of April.
