The EU has reduced its tariffs on bananas from 11 countries in Latin America.
The "banana war" between 11 countries in Latin America and the European Union over the past 20 years has seen 8 conflicts within the World Trade Organization (WTO). The Latin American countries complained to the WTO and demanded a reduction of tariffs in Europe.
The EU has lowered tariffs (from 176 € to 114 €
per ton) for these bananas. The 11 countries (Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Venezuela) have stopped their actions at the WTO and the banana war has just ended in the premises of the WTO in Geneva with the signing of an agreement.
