The facility, which was planned as Europe’s largest agrivoltaic research center, was struck by a Russian drone attack.
On the night of March 23, a Russian drone strike hit a building in Kyiv housing the office of the Ukrainian Agrivoltaics Association and the laboratory of its strategic partner. The association reported the incident the following day, stating that approximately 100 professionals lost access to high-tech workspaces and that all equipment and documentation were destroyed.
The damaged facilities were provided by the largest high-tech laboratory complex in Ukraine, which supported research in agrivoltaics — a technology that integrates renewable energy systems with agriculture to optimize land use. Despite the severe damage, the association confirmed it will continue its work and plans to host an agrivoltaics conference on April 8, 2025.
The destroyed facility was intended to become Europe’s largest research center dedicated to agrivoltaic innovation, with operations initially planned for 2026. In a separate incident on March 8, a warehouse containing equipment for the research center was also destroyed.
The Ukrainian Agrivoltaics Association brings together farmers, renewable energy experts, and researchers to develop sustainable agricultural technologies, and remains committed to advancing its mission under difficult circumstances.
