Five farms and five packing houses are already certified to export the fruit to both markets.
Hass avocado exports to Chile and Japan have officially been launched by São Paulo, the state responsible for over 40% of Brazil’s avocado production. The move follows phytosanitary evaluations begun in 2023 to verify compliance with import regulations.
According to São Paulo’s Agriculture Secretary Guilherme Piai, these new trade channels boost the competitiveness of the state’s fruit sector and highlight its capacity to meet strict export standards.
Chile, the world’s second-highest per capita avocado consumer at 8 kg per person annually, represents strong market potential. Japan also is a valuable market, though it poses logistical and regulatory challenges, including air transport and strict quality controls.
In 2024, São Paulo produced over 223,000 tons of avocados, with major outputs from regions like Ourinhos and Mogi Mirim. To meet export requirements, farms and packing facilities undergo inspections by São Paulo’s agricultural defense agency. Currently, five farms and five packing houses are certified to export Hass avocados to both markets.
