Russian fruit imports continue to rise

Increased consumption of fresh fruit in Russia has sparked a significant rise in fruit imports to the country.
In 2004, Russia imported 3.7 million tons of fruit compared to 2.4 million tons in 2002.
In value terms, fruit trade reached a record US$1.6 billion in 2004, 40 percent more than in 2003.
