Market activity at the start of January reflected weather-driven constraints on field work, with transactions proceeding at a slow pace.
Citrus trading activity remained very limited in early January in the Valencian market, according to Boletín 778 (Week 2) from the Lonja de Valencia, as reported by ASAJA, as persistent rainfall continued to delay harvesting while buyer interest gradually increased.
Within the orange segment, most varieties recorded little to no market movement. Navel oranges were described as “almost without operations,” with average prices at €0.295/kg for Navel and €0.305/kg for Lane Late, unchanged from the previous week. Salustiana oranges showed similarly low activity, averaging €0.265/kg. Other varieties, including Navelina, Powell, Barnfield, Chislett and Sanguinelli, saw no operations or no available stock.
In the mandarin category, early varieties such as Okitsu, Owari, Oronules, Marisol and Clemenules were listed as sold out, while Hernandina registered no transactions. Some movement was recorded in later varieties, with Sando mandarins averaging €0.475/kg, while hybrids showed mixed performance.
Among hybrid mandarins, Clemenvilla traded at an average of €0.525/kg, while Tango stood at €0.700/kg, marking a slight weekly decline in the maximum price. Leanri remained firm at €0.750/kg, and Orri continued to command the highest prices in the bulletin, averaging €1.275/kg, despite very limited transactions.
ASAJA noted that rainfall continues to hold back field activity, tightening immediate supply and supporting buyer interest.
