The offer is reduced and drives the prices up
FJ
The price of apricots remains on the rise due to reduced offer.
The services of the Ministry of Agriculture estimate the production of apricots to 149 100 tonnes. The production in 2013 is down by 21% compared to harvest of 2012 and by 5% less than the 2008-2012 average.
In the Rhone Alps region, early production deficit is due to harsh weather. In Languedoc-Roussillon region, the production is lower than in 2012. In Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, the production is revised downward, less than 48% compared to the 2012 harvest.
The prices are variable depending on the quality of the product. But as the supply is reduced, the index of average output price remains at a high level compared to the average of 5 years (+35%).
