Peruvian avocado exports between January and September 2022 increased 32% compared to the same period last year, totaling 715,252,706 kilos, reported the president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides.
The main destination countries for this product in the analyzed period were Europe with 427,179,176 kg (319,722,163 kg from January to September 2021); North America, with 174,844,759 kg (95,154,723 kg); Asia, 60,188,683 kg (52,673,485 kg); Latin America, 52,661,594 kg (73,922,544 kg); and Africa, 378,494 kg (167,760 kg).
The value of shipments in the first 9 months of 2022 reached $1,179,495,285, reflecting an increase of 12.5%, compared to the $1,048,599,523 achieved in the same period of 2021.
The most important destinations in terms of value were: Europe with $659,091,636 ($619,886,034 from January to September 2021); North America with $332,762,716 ($189,380,040); Asia with $126,814,291 ($115,791,763); Latin America with $60,159,622 ($123,293,783); and Africa with $667,019 ($247,901).
However, this season, which has just ended, the price of the fruit on the world market fell considerably compared to previous years.
In 2021 the average price of a kilo of avocado was: January $2.48, February $2.54, March $2.48, April $2.21, May $1.95, June $1.81, July $1.69, August $1.81, September $2.10. While in the 2022 season the prices were: January $2.22, February $2.22, March $2.00, April $1.70, May $1.57, June $1.55, July $1.62, August $1.68, and September $1.57.
