In Senegal, the production schedule for mango extends over 6 months (from May to October) with an export window of 3 to 4 months.
Senegal produces mangoes over 6 months (May to October) with an export window of 3 to 4 months which allows it, on the international markets, to take over the production of West Africa (Mali , Ivory Coast...).
Mango production reaches 125,000 to 130,000 tons and exports have grown well in recent years. The country exported 288 tons of mangoes in 1998 but by 2015 the volume exported amounted to 16 689 tons. The sector, however, believes that the export potential is not fully exploited.
The area is estimated at 25 000 hectares and Senegal has the longest production in West Africa. In the countries of the region, production of export mangoes is spread over four months (from March to June), while in Senegal, production runs for 6 months (from May to October) with a window Export of 3 to 4 months. Depending on the region, the harvest takes place in May-June-July and in July-August-September.
On the European market Senegal mainly exports mangoes variety Kent. The coloring of the fruit is exceptional: it is a major asset for the Senegal Origin.
