Ivory Coast confirms its position as the No. 1 banana producer in Africa

The dynamism of the banana sector is continuing in Ivory Coast. After having managed to become the N ° 1 of African producers in 2016, Ivory Coast consolidates its position this year with a production of 450,000 tons.
In 2016, Ivory Coast surpassed Cameroon as the No. 1 African country with a banana production of 360,000 tons. For this year the volume produced will reach 450,000 tons.
The goal of reaching the 500 000 tonnes of bananas in 2020, set during the recovery plan of the sector, is about to succeed.
This year the turnover of the banana sector should represent 7% of the agricultural GDP and 3% of the national GDP. Exports to the European market reach 80% of total volumes shipped. Ivory Coast benefits from its geographical position to supply the European markets, the journey by boat is only 7 to 9 days to reach Europe.
