Thai durian exports to China have already registered a + 14% increase in value. The opening by China of a 4th entry point for fruit from Thailand gives Thai professionals hope for further growth in their exports.
According to a statement by a Thai government official, sales of durian to China from January to March 2021 reached USD 186 million, an increase in value of + 14% compared to the same period in 2020.
For this 1st quarter of 2021, the value of exports to China represented 88% of the value of total Thai durian exports. China is the largest export market for fresh Thai durian, with 2020 sales of 1.5 billion USD, a variation of + 78% compared to 2019 and an amount representing 73% of the total value of Thai durian exports.
These good results, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Thai professionals, could still improve. China has just opened a 4th border gate for fruits from Thailand. This entry point located at Dongxing in the Guangxi region was opened to relieve congestion at Mohan, Youyi Guan and Pingxiang, which are used for transporting fruit from Thailand.
