Cameroon sees decline in banana exports amid market shifts
VU
Cameroon witnessed a notable drop in banana exports this June, recording a total of 14,042 tons, which represents an 11.6% decline compared to the 15,670 tons exported in the same month last year. This downturn, reported by the Cameroon Banana Association (Assobacam), is primarily due to reduced shipments to international markets by three of the country's four active banana producers.
One of the local companies saw its exports fall by 1,936 tons, bringing their total to 10,011 tons. Another supplier reported the most significant reduction, with exports decreasing by 526 tons to a total of 534 tons. The other banana producer experienced a slight decrease, with exports dropping from 2,617 tons to 2,462 tons.
However, in contrast to these declines, some companies still show remarkable growth, according the media.
