Mango exports will increase by +15%
FJ
The new season for mango will start in Pakistan from May.
Mango exporters expect a growth of +15% for their shipments abroad. This additional growth will be explained by the conquest of 2 new markets (New Zealand and South Africa) and by increased shipments to China. Open for mangoes from Pakistan since 2012, the Chinese market has not been exploited. Pakistan's exports are still small while Chinese demand may amount to about 50 000 tons/year.
If these forecasts are realized, Pakistan could export nearly 160,000 tons of mangoes to the international markets this season. An increase of +15% compared to the 140,000 tons exported last season. According to industry professionals, these figures are as much realistic as the industry adopts treatment facilities (HWT hot water treatment) increasingly numerous.
Pakistan is the sixth largest producer of mangoes with a total production capacity of approximately 1.8 million tons per year. Its exports represent only 8% of its total production, while nearly 30% is wasted (bad practice, lack of storage, lack of treatment).
