Apples exports will be lower than expected
MD
Pipfruit NZ has just released its estimates for exports of apples from New Zealand.
While the crops in New Zealand are close to the end, Pipfruit NZ made a provisional assessment of apple exports in 2011. The production will be lower than projected estimates of 17.8 million boxes.
The volume of early varieties such as Pacific Beauty and Cox Orange saw a decline of 15% compared to forecasts. Pipfruit expects lower volumes identical for all other varieties.
Thus, the variety Braeburn will not reach the production volume of last year (70,000 tons), which would make it one of the lowest harvests for 10 years.
