Good start of the year for Panamanian fruit exports

In February, a container with 1,320 boxes of Quetzali watermelons was shipped from the province of Herrera (Panama) to Brooklyn (United States), according to data from the Panamanian Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI).
The same month, a total of 10 containers with 1,500 boxes of fresh MD2 Gold pineapples originating in West Panama were shipped to Spain.
So far in 2022, according to data presented by MICI on week 8, Panamanian fruit exports reached a FOB value of more than $11 million.
The main products that Panama is sending to international markets, mainly North America and Europe, are watermelons, pineapples, bananas, papayas, melons, among others.
In order to promote the exportable supply and increase competitiveness, the MICI's National Directorate for Export Promotion offers support and advice as facilitators of exports through programs such as “Conoce a tu exportador” (Meet your exporter in English) or “Panama Exports”.
