Among West African countries, the most important pineapple producers are Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire and Togo.
According to data from PROCAT, the Project to Support the Improvement of the Pineapple Sector in Togo, during the 2021/22 season the country produced 44,391 tonnes of pineapple, of which 33,737 tonnes were grown organically.
The volume produced during the 2021/22 season represents an increase of +47.2% compared to the volume of the 2019 season (30,149 tonnes) and an increase of +64.4% compared to the volume of the 2017 season (27,000 tons).
This increase is mainly due to PROCAT, which has provided support to producers as well as companies active in the pineapple sector. PROCAT is funded by the European Union and supported by BMZ, the German Ministry for Cooperation. In 2020, the 2 partners provided financial support of 30 million FCFA (47,152 USD) to the FeNaCoPAT (National Federation of Pineapple Producer Cooperatives of Togo) to help local businesses to be more competitive.
