With the arrival of late summer and early autumn, significant damage was observed on citrus leaves and fruit due to mites of the genus Eutetranychus, especially in the province of Huelva (Spain). The warm temperatures recorded in June and July favored the expansion of this pest, although acaricide treatments managed to control its advance temporarily.
However, during the second half of August, the incidence of the mite increased, affecting almost 9% of the leaves in some plots. It is anticipated that, with maximum temperatures below 35 °C and an increase in relative humidity, Eutetranychus spp. populations could increase significantly, especially in coastal areas.
Given the rapid proliferation of this pest and the possible resistance to acaricides, it is recommended to alternate treatments and to remain vigilant to avoid severe crop damage. It is crucial to quantify the auxiliary fauna before making decisions on chemical control.
