Annual production of fruit totals 400.000 tonnes

Production of fruit is one of the most important economic branches of Moldova.
According to statistics information, fruit totals 4 % from the gross volume of agrarian produce.
As of January 1th, 2009, areas of gardening plantations, nut crops and plantations of fruit bushes totaled 125 000 ha, including:
- plantations of stone-fruits and seed gardens - 116 600 ha (93 % from the gross area)
- plantations of nut crops - 8 200 ha (6.5 %)
- plantations of fruit bushes - 500 ha.
During the period 2001-2008, average annual volume of fruit produced in Moldova totaled 400 000 tonnes, including 305 000 tonnes of apples , 4 000 tonnes of pears, 4 000 tonnes of quince, 50 000 tonnes of plums, 20 000 tonnes of cherries and sweat cherries, 15 000 tonnes of peaches and 5 000 tonnes of apricots.
Should be noted that Moldavian fruit are supplied to 33 countries.
