Onion production will reach 40,000 tons

Onion production will increase in Peru by more than 10% and will reach up to 40 000 tonnes this year.
Increase of 10% is expected in the production of onions in Peru.
According to the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of La Libertad this year onion production will reach 40,000 tons, an increase of over 10% compared to 2012 which recorded a production of 34,913 tons of onions.
The largest production areas are the coastal provinces of Viru, Ascope and Chepen. The area dedicated to the onion represent nearly 1000 hectares.
