The number of hypermarkets and supermarkets to increase by 6 to 7% per year in Bulgaria, a country still under-equipped when consumption increases.

The Bulgarian market is a good "target" for large supermarket chains.

Bulgaria has fewer supermarkets per capita than other countries in Europe. Bulgaria has only 1,900 hypermarkets and supermarkets, that number is expected to increase by 6 to 7% per year, to reach 2600 in 2016.

These chains which are based in the country will continue to optimize their sales networks. In 2012, the chain Kaufland plans three new hypermarkets, Carrefour: 2 hypermarkets, 15 new supermarkets for Piccadilly and 14 new outlets for T-Market and CBA 5.

According to GfK, household consumption in Bulgaria has increased by 2.9% over the past year.
