The Hatay region increases its exports of vegetables

Based in southern Turkey, bordering Syria and the Mediterranean Sea, the Hatay region has greatly increased its exports of vegetables.
The administrative capital is Antakya (known in antiquity as Antioch), while the largest city of the province is the port city of Iskenderun (Alexandretta). The region has 270,766 hectares of arable land, nearly 32,000 hectares are used for growing vegetables.
Approximately 1,370 acres are devoted to growing parsley, 3747 hectares for carrots, 237 hectares for leeks, and 909 hectares for spinach.
Production reached 20,000 tons of parsley, 7,590 tons of leeks, 12,861 tons of spinach.
These crops have responded well to the needs of the market and the surplus is exported. The main destinations are Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan and Russia.
To develop better crops and food security, many projects are developed to control the use of pesticides. In preparation, the introduction of bar codes for vegetables grown in the province.
