In Canada, as in many other countries since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, government directives advise the consumption of local products.
Farmers in various provinces across the country are seeing renewed interest in local food supplies. Some even consider it a tsunami of demand for local products.
Producers are starting to deliver fruit and vegetables to consumers homes, others are setting up websites and applications to take orders. Sales everywhere are exploding.
As a consequence: overflowed online systems, the obligation to invest in equipment (refrigerated truck) and in personnel (packaging, delivery). These new activities are time-consuming and extend the daily working time, preventing from properly supplying long-time customers and preparing for future productions. In front of the influx of requests, certain professionals refuse new customers.
