A Cuban delegation participated for the 3rd time in the Macfrut exhibition

A Cuban delegation participated for the third time in the show, with a larger number of representatives from the sector this year. The event was an opportunity to present Cuban production and development in international markets, but also to explain the opportunity for Italian companies wishing to invest in the Cuban agricultural sector.

 

 

"The prospects and the export and investment potential of Italian companies in our agricultural sector are a real opportunity," said Ms. Milagros Carina Soto Aguero, Cuban Ambassador to Italy.

 

 

In Cuba, one of the new developments in the fruit sector is the production of avocados. “Today, tropical fruits cover 95,000 hectares of land – and this area continues to increase – of which 24% is managed by the state, while 76% is managed by cooperatives and private companies. With its 3 different avocado cultivars, the Cuban agricultural sector is capable of producing this fruit all year round," said Guillermo Rafael Almenares Garlobo, director of the Tropical Fruit Cultivation Research Institute.

 

 

Katia Pérez Diaz of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce pointed out that avocados, bananas, pineapples, mangoes and many other types of fruits and vegetables, both fresh and processed, are an important segment to invest in.

 

 

Macfrut 2022 attracted many foreign participants. The African continent was represented by more than 200 professionals from 14 countries (Angola, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, Somalia, Zambia, Zimbabwe). As for non-EU countries, there were also participants from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Vietnam.
