Excellent season for Peruvian mango exports, which grew nearly 300% in 2012.
Peruvian exports of mangoes were up this season.
EMPA, the Association of Producers and Exporters of mangoes, cited a growth of 296% for mango exports - 990 container shipments were exported compared to 334 in 2011.
This remarkable growth is due to excellent weather conditions. The year 2011 was marked by a sharp decline in production driven by bad
weather. That year, exports fell to 70,000 tons, while the usual volume was 130,000 tons.
Mangoes are the most exported fruit from Peru. About 60% went to the EU and 35% to the United States. The rest is shipped to Chile, China and Japan.
