The national production of beetroot is one of the most significant inside of the context total volume of agricultural the national market of vegetables. According to available official statistical data, they exist today in Brazil about 10.000 hectares of beetroots, produced in more than 100,000 properties. Of the total, about 45% they are located with bigger predominance in the regions of Piedade and Ibiúna, in the state of São Paulo, and Gotardo, Madre de Deus and Carandaí, in the state of Minas Gerais, Southeastern region. Others 35% are located in the south region, especially in the green belts of the great capitals, as Curitiba and Porto Alegre. These regions are responsible for the production of 300,000 tonnes/year that contributes for the annual remuneration of 500,000 people who remain in the field.
