Promising season 2001-02 for avocados

Avocado production in growing countries looks promising and stimulates exports. This season 2001-02 should record a global production of 1,6 million tons, that is to say 8% more than the previous year. USA post a 22% rise to 212 000 tons. With its large crop, Mexico, the bigger producer, opens doors to the US market with a 134% rise in exports. Mexico stands for 40% of the world's production, followed by Indonesia, Chile and Peru. France is the largest avocado importer in the world, then UK is a new emergent export market.
