Peru will export record volume of table grapes in the campaign 2021/22

In Peru, in the campaign 2021/22 (October-September), table grape production is projected to reach 700.000 tons (+2% YOY), according to a recent GAIN report from USDA.
The increase is driven by favorable weather conditions, sufficient water supply, and rising demand for grapes.
Peru is considered an ideal place for grape production due to its dry coast with a range of temperatures (14-30 degrees Celsius) and more than 12 hours of sunlight per day, all year round.
In addition, precision irrigation enables Peru to mature vines 55% faster compared to neighboring countries. Grape production is mainly developed in Ica (41%) and Piura (22%). The total cultivated area is estimated at 32.000 hectares.
The main variety remains Red Globe, due to its popularity in the evolving Chinese market. Nevertheless, producers are shifting to higher value varieties to supply other countries. This includes diversifying to more than 20 different varieties to satisfy consumer demand worldwide (Surgeon, Crimson seedless, Flame seedless, and Thompson seedless).
According to FAS Lima, Peruvian table grape exports in 2021/22 would reach a record of 510.000 tons (+6% YOY).
The main destinations for these supplies in the previous year were the United States, the Netherlands and Hong Kong.
