The United States Market is the 1st market in the world for avocados. According to a study conducted by HAB (Hass Avocado Board) bagged avocado purchases increased by up to 3 times the growth rate recorded for bulk avocado purchases over a perio of four years (from 2016 to 2019) and this segment could still grow.
According to a study conducted by HAB (Hass Avocado Board) bagged avocados now represent more than a quarter of all avocado purchases. Purchases of bagged avocados increased up to 3 times the growth rate recorded for purchases of bulk avocados over a 4-year period (2016 -2019).
Bagged avocados are becoming an increasingly important segment. While 59% of avocado buying households continue to buy only bulk avocados and 9% buy exclusively bagged avocados, there is a group of 32% of households that buy both bulkand bagged avocados. This latter group generated 43% of total purchases of avocados in 2016 but above all 50% of total purchases in 2019.
“It is becoming increasingly important for marketers and avocado retailers to consider their product offerings in this rapidly changing retail market,” says Emiliano Escobedo, executive director of the Hass Avocado Board. “Loose avocados are a staple of the category, but bagged avocados continue to drive growth. "
