With similar acreage, production and export volumes are likely to approach last year's results.
In Spain, the areas dedicated to the cultivation of garlic remain stable this season, which suggests similar volumes for production and export.
The recent meeting of the ANPCA (Asociación Nacional de Productores y Comercializadores de Ajo), analyzing the campaign data, estimated that the cultivated area remains stable compared to previous years.
With similar acreage, production and export volumes are likely to approach last year's results. Spanish garlic exports in 2017 amounted to 165 874 tonnes, 2% more than in 2016, for a value of 315 million euros. By destination, exports to the EU amounted to 96 277 tonnes and 69 597 tonnes to third countries.
ANPCA brings together the 57 largest companies in the sector, which represent around 50% of the total area of garlic grown in Spain and about 75% of garlic marketed.
