Peru’s potato exports grow across multiple product categories

Peru exported $935,000 worth of potatoes and potato products in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 18 countries. The top buyers were the United States ($404,652), Chile ($198,000), and Spain ($105,450), together accounting for 75.8% of the total, according to Peruvian media outlets.
Other destinations included Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, Italy, Belgium, Uruguay, Japan, and Panama. Samples were also sent to Argentina, Canada, Aruba, the UAE, and Switzerland.
Snacks were the main export category, worth $385,881 and representing 41.3% of total sales. Exports also included dried and freeze-dried potatoes ($222,672), frozen products ($199,147), and powders like starch and chuño flour ($51,231). Other formats included precooked, fresh, and mashed potatoes.
Peruvian cuisine’s global popularity continues to boost international demand for native potato varieties. In 2024, total potato exports from Peru in all forms reached $6.59 million.
