Orchards and packing facilities were reviewed as part of the market-opening process.
Argentina is moving forward in efforts to open the Chinese market to its stone fruit exports, the government said. A technical delegation from China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) spent several days inspecting orchards, packing facilities and sanitary systems in key producing provinces, including Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Río Negro and Neuquén.
The visits, carried out with the support of Argentina’s national plant health service SENASA, evaluated pest control, traceability and safety measures across fresh plum, peach, apricot and nectarine production. Chinese officials noted strengths in Argentina’s systems and suggested some adjustments as part of the ongoing process.
The inspection is a key step in negotiating phytosanitary protocols that would allow stone fruit from Argentina to enter China — one of the world’s largest fruit markets — under agreed health and safety standards.
Officials said cooperation between government bodies and the fruit industry will continue as they work toward finalising the requirements needed to secure market access.
